Why's my therapist talking about PARTS? I'm here to work on my relationship

TLDR: Everyone has different emotional and mental states, called "Parts." And these "parts" affect your relationship with others.

In today's video, we're going to talk about the three broad categories of "parts" - hurt, protective, and wise - and how these parts show up in your relationships.

Most patterned arguments are because of hurt and protective parts. Once you begin to build a relationship with these parts, by practicing curiosity and compassion, you'll have fewer fights and more connection.

Parts work was developed by Dick Schwartz's therapy model Internal Family Systems (IFS) and it's one of my favorite tools for building self-awareness. If you want to learn more about Dick and IFS, check out his interview on Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness.

Parts work is an INCREDIBLY helpful tool for building an intimate life, so we will revisit this topic many times in the future.

With love,
Jami Lynn
